Insurance giant MetLIfe Inc. is planning to expand their plant in Charlotte, South Carolina.
Just last month they announced an expected increase of 1,350 employees. April rumours that are circling however, suggest that number might double. While it has not yet been officially confirmed, there is a good chance that Charlotte will become the new hub for the organisation's retail insurance business in the United States. This would involve a capital investment of approximately $40.6M, with a transition happening over the next two years.
Real-estate firm Jones Lang La Salle supported these rumours in their recently released market report, saying that MetLife has been seeking space upwards of 550,000 square-feet. This size building, they wrote, could accommodate around 1,000 new office workers. MetLife was also apparently in negotiations back in February to lease a building roughly half that size.
MetLife is America's largest life-insurance provider and offers comprehensive insurance, annuities and employee benefit programmes to nearly 90 million customers worldwide.
